Here's another possible reCLAMation in progress. When I was a youngster, I don't recall seeing clams anywhere on the beaches of the lower Columbia River. Now they are all over the place and at a couple of places I've been, the beaches are totally covered with the shells. As far as I know, only raccoons and Vietnamese eat them. They might be tasty, but I suspect that they might be kind of toxic. I think I read somewhere that at least on the Oregon side you're supposed to leave them alone. I don't think this explosive clam population is on purpose and it's possible that these clams are imports from Asia, or somewhere else. WE have an enormous number of ships from all over plying the lower Columbia.
