I just finished looking at some more kayak reviews on the Paddling.net website, and again was amazed at posters telling us that they had thus and such a boat out in "30 mph" or "35 mph" or "40 mph" winds, sometimes routinely, and that the boat was just fine, 10 out of 10, etc., etc. I maintain that 95%, maybe more, of this reporting is absolute nonsense. The wind is blowing at whatever velocity an anemometer says it is, not what the paddler thinks or hopes it is. As I indicated before, kayakers think the wind is blowing at least at 150% of its real and measured value, and thus spread the notion that sea kayaking in Force 6 and above conditions in this or that boat is Standard Practice. But it just ain't so!
