PREPPING for a S-N Florida trip, eg bought a Sunday Afternoon’s sun hat via Outdoorgearlab.com !
Salt soap, spare headnet and 2 more Dromedary bags enough now for a 7 day trip.
Came across Walgrin’s 50 SPF LIP BALM. Fifty !!!. Was put of stock. New, for me, high numbers began a search leading to Walmart pharmacy where the sunscreen tower’s hi numbers were in spray cans containing toluene, acetone…and what may be a UV absorboing polymer film.
The film crystallizes on skin with reflective crystals hinged to follow the sun. AND ! an electron switch opening film holes over each sweat cell outlet, variable for conditions from a controller wrist band.
Film contains emollients and nutritive skin foods.
Amazing but no non spray there.
Almost walked away without a new tube but escaping toward checkout with a forgotten item, I blundered into a bookshelf of sunscreens in the area once occupied by a vast egg cooler. Eggs are OUT in Retirementville.
AHA ! Scanning the 12x6’ shelves there in the upper right corner were hi numbers. By chance, I pulled out BANANA BOAT Sport Performance 100. Nicely shaped container. Love the color.
And there were 2 left.
Reading the jimbomumbo on BBS’ bottle, I ran to Wikipedia for explanations finding the phase:
BROAD SPECTRUM SUNSCREEN
The key: a small but psychologically influential typeline on the BB bottle.
BROAD SPECTRUM SUNSCREEN is a Federal phrase stating by decree the fluid inside contains compounds absorbing or deflecting both UVA and UVB wavelengths as a fact not an advertizing phrase. A and B as our current understanding of skin negative sunlight.
So a google search then produces the field of sun screens or sun blocks necessary for extended kayaking. Remembering UV passes thru cloud covers.
