I'm new to the Sea Kayaker community. I live in Capistrano Beach, CA. I've been surf kayaking for a while now. But I've wanted to kayak out to Catalina for a long time. A friend of mine did it a few years ago. It took about 8 hours.

I'm curious if 1) anyone in this community has done it. How long did it take? How did you prepare? and 2) What kind of lower back and ab exercises are good for training to do something like that.
