I haven't had a problem with bears. There are very few trees on some of the islands so bear-proofing can be tricky. If we can hang, we do. Otherwise we double bag everything and lock it in our hatches. That is a bit risky, as a bear would probably trash the kayak to get to the food. Then you re stranded on an island with no food.

I am looking at the bear canisters as an option. The kevlar bags seem to be a good option.
