Pair kayaking from NSW to NZ

Two men have set off from Forster on the New South Wales mid north coast for an unassisted kayak voyage to New Zealand.
James Castrission, 25, and Justin Jones, 24, say they have been preparing for their expedition for the past five years and are travelling in a custom-built kayak.
After being cleared by customs officials from Newcastle and waiting for the right tide, they departed from the Forster marina boat ramp shortly after 1:00pm (AEDT).
They were escorted by a coastal patrol boat and more than a dozen other kayakers, with their parents among those to farewell them.
The men hope to use the prevailing currents and winds to reach Auckland in 40 to 50 days.
Just before they departed Mr Castrission said the conditions looked promising for the start of their vogage.
"We'll probably get about 20-30 km off the coast and then we'll truck out the power anchor and have a snooze until tomorrow morning," he said.
"We've got a couple of days until we get into the EAC (eastern Australian current) proper and the weather is looking great, so we'll just wait."
