I missed the roll on your post. Iím not an expert but currently practicing rolling.
For rolling, not surfing, a Koko Goretex skirt or equivalent, that is not white water, is adequate.
The cockpit will fill with water, you will stop to drain but that is drain practice both standing on bottom and just off deeper.
You then have the opportunity practicing rentry, quick skirt installÖ
UTUBE has the works for the above but find Fordís rolling instruction disc from NRS or PADDLENEWS. Fordís animation allows self analysis.
Try a double float hip snap practice, one foam one air bladder. You balance down into the water off the double floated paddle, ear in water, then hip snap.
This makes zero physical sense while doing it but is required.
After 2 hip snap sessions, I rolled up with a perfect Ford snap roll Ė using the bladder float .
My analysis was thru the hip snap practice, developing a significant twist into the snap, as seen in the animation, would solve my non rolling. It did.
I suffered 3 instructor supervised rolling classes. Worthless. Do not discourage with clueless instructors, watch the video.
