Given the waters in that area I can only tell you what Brock said to his son, Gorth in James Clavell's Tai Pan "Chart thy own course!"

I say that only because the waters there are complex and require good planning and execution. It's one of those moments where I have to say that if you have to ask you're not ready to do it. So, break out your charts and current tables and plan it out.

I am planning a trip around San Juan Island. The time was now when I arrived last year. Several yakkers came round to tell me what a great trip.

I was/am curious if there's a route north of Speiden Island. Off line communication was NO, THE FETCH FROM THE NORTH is too strong. Logical.

Logical. My keyboard has its agenda.

Offline continued shouting, PADDLE CLOSE TO SHORE. Again logical, wait for a slack then cross from Jones to San Juan. Sprint for Limestone Point atop SJI.

Leave early before wind comes down the channel from Cascades/Chuckanuts, if possible.

An unanalyzed situation, of my wind devil story out of False Bay is the tide's interactions seen when running down to Juan de Fuca from Smallpox Bay with the tide then east on de Fuca with an incoming tide and around Cattle Point to Griffith Bay.

Great ! On paper. I'm thinking there's a difference in volumes of Haro/Fraser to Juan De Fuca causing a moving tide rip coming west across the Eagle Point area.
