My husband, a friend and I are headed to Russia this summer to circumnavigate Lake Baikal in our kayaks. This is a follow up trip to our 2009 Lake Superior circumnavigation, and the the second step on our way to kayaking the largest freshwater lake on each continent.

We are putting all of our photos, journals, and other updates from the trip on our website www.asuperioradventure.com and we'd like to spread the word to anyone who's interested in following along. Also, we're working on putting together a film about the trip - if you're interested in learning more - check out http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/44957095/lake-baikal-skimming-the-surface-a-kayak-documenta

If you know any paddlers in the Lake Baikal region or have paddled in Siberia, we'd love to hear about it. We're getting all psyched up to leave in June and want to hear from other paddlers!

Sorry for the question added to your question, but I am new here. How do I create a new post on this forum?
Thanks! Julia

Julia,

As a registered user you can create a new topic by selecting that option when in the overall category you want to post under. To set up a new forum category you have to have a higher level of clearance to the program or, drop me a line and if it's a logical addition to our categories I'll add it.

I understand Chris was able to get hold of you and provide information on others that have paddled Lake Baikal, hopefully they will be able to provide you with the information you need. Good luck on your trip - I hope you take time to tell us a bit of how the preparation is going and a bit on how it went when you return.

You've whetted our interest in your upcoming adventure.

A bit different from climbing the highest mountain on each continent. For that they usually climb one in Australia though NZ has a higher one if that was taken as Australasia rather than Australia. So, what is the lake in Australia you aim to paddle? Lake Eyre? Most of the time you might as well walk it.

Antarctica? The Dry Lake?

I dont have contact for some of the other team members, but a group paddled sections of Baikal in early 90's? Try Grant or Gail at Living Adventures in Bayfield/redcliff Wisconsin - I believe one of them was part of the group

Well, Thre is Lake Vostok, but it's 300m below the surface of the ice and I suspect the Russian aren't too keen in letting anyone down the bore they've been working on. Plus, that's be pretty dark.
