...So just after making the Landing video. We were paddling down the coast from Pacifica CA. checking out the rocky features on the way. It was a nice day with a 5@12sec swell and a much larger surge forecast for late that night. We had been out a couple of hours when we paddled into a bay and were checking out the zipper type waves that are created from the surge reflecting off shore in that area. We were sitting outside of what until than had been the largest set of the day. When what seemed out of nowhere a huge wave appeared out of the calm bay behind us. I will let the video tell the rest. But looking at the buoy history for that day there was a jump from 5@12 to 5@21sec!! Trapped Inside at Devils Slide
Glad you all ended up ok. The climb out looked like a good choice. We had a group stuck in a similar situation in a cove with vertical sides up in here on the Wa coast a few years back and it ended with a helicopter rescue.
