After making a few Neptune's Rangers rock garden videos. I decided to make one on some of the skill needed to paddle in these areas. This is not meant to be an instruction video, but just some options people should know. Landing and Launching in Rock Gardens

2 weeks after filming this video. I had the opportunity to use these skills in a live situation.....see Part 2

Great stuff, Bill. Saw your comments & video links on Eric Soares' Tsunami Rangers blog. I especially liked your "Trapped Inside at Devil's Slide" video. It's a wonderful example of how rapidly conditions can change along the open coast. One second it's fun stuff, the next it's ultra gnarly and getting worse by the minute. The magnitude of the sudden change would have been hard for me to appreciate without the kayaks there to give it scale. Go get 'em plucky Neptune's Rangers! You rock in rock gardens! Arrrrr!

So, do these guys rent their boats, or do they get a new one every couple of weeks?

YES!! This dose take a toll on the boats so this is not an everyday launch technique. But if launching from a rock is the only option then it works well. You could say we took one for the team to make the video.
Also Tony Johnson through many experiments has developed a way to fill scratches in plastic boats. He uses an ordinary poly tarp with very little heating of the hull. And has actually put a plastic keel strip on his boat using this technique.
