I think you'll be happier in the Hatteras, based on your own response. The 4 pound difference in weight is easily compensated for by designing your loading/unloading routine to minimize stress. I loaded/unloaded much heavier kayaks for years by incorporating a padded (old piece of carpet) crossbar into my roofrack system such that I could get just the bow of the kayak onto the padded crossbar, then just slide the kayak further up onto the crossbar until it roughly balanced. It then was nothing to monkey it into place in the saddles.
If you paddle in serious chop, you'll appreciate the greater length of the Hatteras.
