My wife and I are thinking of going kayaking in Maine next summer, perhaps on a 4 or 5 day trip. I know nothing about Maine so I'm thinking of hiring a guide.

Instead of going on an expensive show-up-in-your-underwear-and-we-take-care-of-everything tour, I'm hoping to save a bundle by bringing all my own kayaking and camping equipment, do all my own cooking, and just use the guide for guiding.

Anyone have experience hiring guides to just guide a multi-day trip in Maine? Any idea how much it costs per day for a guide?
