If you need to consider visibility, yellow or red. For a glass boat, a white hull is easier to color match when repairing gouges.

Red is always faster than any other colour - talk to Ferrari.

Although white may mask scratches and hull repairs best, I prefer a bright color (e.g., his-vis yellow) for both the deck and hull. A capsized kayak with a white hull bobbing around in whitecaps is nearly invisible.

I'm all about safety, not fashion.

I think Illusion nailed it.

Whatever boat I buy is going to be all about visibility, not what color I think is 'kewl'.

Yellow is fastest, and even if red is close, the police pull red kayaks over for speeding more often.

I'd look into the hi visibility yellow/green that cyclists use. Looking down the road on a wet gray day it shows up significantly better than yellow.

I thought NATO-like Robbin Egg Blue was supposed to be pretty visible at sea, apparently. I think wooden kayaks are the safest finish, after all, boaters avoid hitting logs and a good strip-built kayak looks like a floating log! Personally, I like high visibility yellow, though my kayaks are all currently signal yellow, decks and hull. Black paddles are all the rage but they should be color-impacted somehow as that is what is usually seen first from a distance. And according to Eric Soares, cameo color is cool and you can hide while commando camping – not that I’ve ever done that. :-)
