I have a boat I am restoring (Current Design Extreme) and it needs a new cable thread through the tube. When I cut it how do I keep it from fraying so it goes into the tubing. It looks tight. I think it may be hard to push through if the end is fraying? Thanks for any tips.

Should I solder it then cut it on a 45* angle? Does something like that work?

I think I would try crimping a little copper tip, or sleeve (maybe some kind of electrical fitting) on the end if the tube will allow it. Sometimes a little metal tip is used on bicycle cables after they are cut. Heating the cable to solder it, might expand it. Good luck.

tube is real tight. I'll try to tin the end with solder and angle cut it tomorrow.
I was going to dip it in the resin yesterday when I was using it.
Thanks!

Why not use Spectra? 2 mm is quite thick enough. It is easy to tie to what ever the ends need to fit to. Its what we've been using for about 15 years.

I bought new pedals, cable, crimping tools. I want it to be as it was stock.

I've always just taped cable before threading it in both sailing and kayaking applications. When you do the crimp (nicopress sleeve) make sure you get it pressed as tight as the tool will allow and remember that as it is compressed in diameter it will grow in length. You need to leave just a bit of cable sticking out before you begin compressing the sleeve or you end up not getting maximum holding power. Personally I try to keep the end short enough that all of the cable end is inside the sleeve even if it means part of the crimp is only holding one side of the cable loop.
