Hi,
I am new to form. I just purchased a aqua-bound Mmanta-ray carbon paddle. I bought the paddle on-line. The paddle did not come with the twist lock ferrule. The paddle I have is adjustable 0, 60left and 60 right with a push button. The ferrule system adds 1oz to paddle.

Question:

1 What is your opinion on the twist lock ferrule compared to the push button.

2 IS 60 degrees to much angle ?

3 Anyone like\dislike Auqa-bound carbon

Thanks

I have paddles that use the twist lock and paddles that use the push button; both work just fine.

When I paddle into a fairly brisk wind, I usually opt for the 60 degree setting. In less wind I might go for 45 degrees. A time, or two, the wind was strong enough that I was happy to have a paddle that allowed 90 degrees.

The Aqua Bound paddles I have used weren't carbon, but they were surprisingly very comfortable and effective.

On the subject of ferrules; the newer Werner push button rigs are slicker than snot.

I've heard good things about those paddles. Good value for the money. 60 is quite a bit of feather and causes some people wrist issues. I don't change my feather angle (zero deg) for conditions as I found switching around makes my offside bracing and rolling less consistent.

My wife and I used AquaBound twist-lock paddles for five years and were completely happy with them. Ours have carbon shafts and white composite blades (Sting Ray and Manta Ray). I recall no problems with the twist-lock. My wife uses no feather and I use around 30 degrees. They are great paddles for the money, and we only upgraded because my wife had surgery and I bought her the lightest and least aggressive paddle I could find (Werner Athena). I was so impressed I bought a Werner Kalliste for myself. My son is very happy with his Manta Ray with the black composite blade.

One advantage with twist-lock ferrules that I hadn't thought of before is that it is unlikely that any looseness, or play will ever develop between the two shafts--as is the case with just about all the push button ferrules.
