I have a Current Design Extreme which is now their Nomad. I am putting in Sea Dog pedals for an update. I wanted to use the studs that you glass on to the hull to replace the bolt through design. They are here http://www.duckworksbbs.com/hardware/canoe-kayak/footbrace/index.htm Scroll down half page and you will see the mounting studs. Problem is I cannot reach into the front mount screw to epoxy and then glass over the stud mount. Any suggestions are welcome. I am going to paint the whole boat and was looking to get rid of the through bolts on the hull.

Only thing I can see is to remove the front bulkhead to reach in through the front hatch. It is made of poly and placed in silicone into the hull unlike the newer CD boats which have glass. It would be another PITA to cut out and replace.

Thanks!

There are a few manufacturers who do not bolt the braces on; they are glued on. In fact my NC Expedition's foot braces are glued in, which is the case with all of their boats. I don't know what adhesive they use, but you could contact them at nckayaks.com and I'm pretty sure they would be glad to tell you. I think it is the same adhesive they use to secure the deck to the hull and is supposed to have a tensile strength of 3500 lbs. per square inch. By the way, the foot braces they use are not plastic.

thanks! I was going to use Marine Tex but then wanted to put a glass layer over the stud to really lock it in.. If I put the put up side down I can get my finger to the hole. I looked and don't want to pull the bulkhead it is siliconed on both sides. I guess they did that with a long armed person. Next option is to move the pedal mounts back 2 inches then I can reach easily. I guess it would still adjust enough for me @ 6' 32 inch inseam. I want to look in my Solstice so I can measure it pedal to seat where I know it fits me. I am to lazy to unwrap it with the weather here as it looks like it will not be going anywhere for a while. Smaller person would fit in the cockpit when the boat is upside down for a deeper reach. Other option is bolt it back in but I like the no bolt look and clean hull.

The pedals in the Extreme are already two inches closer to the seat than my Solstice. Moving them back is not an option.

Next option I figured today is to take a hole saw through the front bulkhead for access. Then I will close it with 1" mini-cell foamed siliconed in place.

cut two holes with 4.5" hole saw so they lap a bit. Then I bought some 1/16" ABS (ebay) same as the bulkheads and will silicone a piece over the opening I created.
