Hi everyone,

I am a 44 year old grandma who loves to kayak and be on the water. I've admired Pygmy Boats for some time now and finally my Artic Tern 14 arrives today. So let the challenge begin to build this!

Is this is a good site for helpful hints in building or is it strictly for showing such good workmanship?

I built a Tern 14 a few years ago. It is a great boat, the kit was good but the instructions were horrible, and no fixtures were available. I'm a cabinet maker and worked through the issues, but i sure hope they got better at instructions.

I added banding to the cockit coming, to hide the plywood. I also modified the hatches, making them smaller, they are sized for the bigger boats. I put internal ribs under the hatches so I would not have to put those ugly half rounds on top of the hatches. I also made up mahogany cleats to secure deck bungies in an elegant fashion. It came out nice.
