This was a superimposed killer whale shot infront of the kayakers. A forgery freely done as a commercial add.

Phony, or not, this is why my Sirocco will probably not have to worry much about tasting salt water.

Many of my guests ask me about this video... I have to tell them its fake. For one thing, that would be one HUGE orca (I paddle near them often). Secondly, that kayaker would have to be the COOLEST man alive... to get smacked by the whale, than roll back up... wicked.

lol...

It's an urban legend. There explanation is copied in below:

 Quote:
Origins: One of the hazards a kayaker might least expect when plying ocean waters is for a killer whale to breach the surface and land on him, but that's what is depicted as happening to one of a group of three kayakers on the video clip displayed above. (The capsized kayaker resurfaces at the end of the clip and, apparently unharmed, rights his craft.)

However, this clip, which circulates under the French joke name of "Regis fait du kayak," isn't the real thing: It's part of a Korean-language version of a commercial for Powerade energy drink (a product of the Coca-Cola Company). Powerade is noted for producing commercials using a variety of tricky visual effects to depict athletes accomplishing seemingly impossible feats of strength and skill (to the accompaniment of breathless narration by on-the-spot announcers), and this kayak commercial is yet another example of that genre.

In this case, the commercial's producers took some footage available in the documentary Lolita: Slave to Entertainment (viewable in the film's trailer and added the kayaks through digital manipulation.

Snoops has an article on the background of the footage. @NordkappMan was right, it's a Poweraid energy drink out of Korea. http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/kayak.asp

Even looking at the video:

1> Menicing touches - The ratio in size between Kayaker and Orca seems off (Orca too big)
2> CGI-shortcuts - The wave action is off and "conveniently" never reaches the other two Kayakers.
3> Moving but not moving - The Paddlers correctly paddle faster but do not really gain any traction
4> Poor reaction - The biggest thing is that the Kayaker in the forefront never even looks back, 100% of people's reactions to that situation would be something different.

I continue to lust after one of these. I have spent weeks researching various boats. I would like an expedition capable, longer boat as my current sea kayak is a shorter, day boat. I come back to the Cetus every time based on feedback and reviews. This was an interesting find on YouTube.

Pinku, you should take a look at NC Kayaks' Expedition. There is no doubt in my mind that it is as good as it gets. I've had mine for more than a year now and I'm more convinced than ever that it is the finest sea kayak that money can buy. nckayaks.com
