After reading the article about paddling the Erie Canal in Sea Kayaker, I have decided to plan a trip for next year and have a few questions for anyone who has paddled the canal and/or lives in the area.
First and foremost, I am thinking of a 7-10 day trip and would like to include both camping and stays in bed and breakfasts along the route. With a goal of paddling about 6 hours per day, does anyone have any suggestions as to a section of the canal that is particularly worth doing? The closer to Lake Erie and the Buffalo side of things the better, as I would be driving from Minnesota and would like to keep that part of the trip as short as possible.
Also, what is the best time in your opinion to visit? I will be getting out of school in mid may and won't have to go back until september, with this in mind, what is the prime time for minimal bugs and motorized traffic and with maximum opportunities for wildlife viewing??
Any other input that I should know about the area is also much appreciated.
This forum doesn't look like it sees too much traffic so hopefully by posting this now I will have gotten a few good responses by the time spring rolls around

:):)
Thanks All!
