Has anyone used one of the Solio solar charges in an area that is mostly overcast? Myself and 4 friends are going to be paddling up the inside passage for 5 weeks in June and July and we would like to bring a solar charger to charge the VHF radios and a video camera. Has anyone used it in a clear dry bag? Have an idea about how fast is charges under overcast conditions? I am looking at buying the Solio Mag and putting it in a clear dry bag as it is much cheaper than using a waterproof brunton roll.

Thank you

I use the Brunton charger. It charges real good when very sunny. when it is overcast it just about doubles my charge time, but it works when there is nothing around you for days. I carry my charger everywhere even if I am not out on the water. It folds up to about 5 inches by 10 inches. when unfolded it has 4 panels, and is water resistant.

I use two different Solio chargers on my trips but not the mag (yet). I use the chargers to charge everything including the special AA batteries which can be ordered and the light for reading at night. I have many of the optional attachments. It also charges my ipod, video camera, VHF, etc.
Last summer I went out for about 5 weeks with no batteries (just the chargers). It was one of the cloudiest summers on record. These babies charged so fast in cloudy conditions that I only had to charge them on land while I made and broke camp (no need to charge while actually paddling). It is a good idea to buy two chargers (make sure they will charge what you need: read manuals), take both out with full charges and then you will always have lots of power. They work as advertised.
