Does anyone have a use for this. It appears to be a standard fitting on a lot of PFDs but I dont think I have ever seen one being used except for possibly a strobe.

Cheers

Bill

The little square thing is basicly an attachement point for securely attaching and accessory. I use mine to attach my strobe (with webbing) and as an attacnement point for the leash on my knife.

Okay, I'll admitt it, I don't think there is a direct purpose to the little square thing infront of the PFD. I have pondered it myself. The only things I could sea it a use for would be exactly stated above, either a knife or a safety strobe light. I would though lean more towards the strobe, because newer PFD's are coming out with the little square on the back shoulder as well. So if it's purpose is for a strobe light, it wouldn't be flashing in your face. Personally I wouldn't want a mile plus visible strobe flashing inches from my face. If I was to define it to have some purpose I would see it as a universal, easy accessible mount for any small device mainly a strobe, knife, or gps unit.

sure i use mine all the time, its the perfect spot to attatch my nose plugs if i'm out practicing rolls or wet exits/rescues.

Also, it fits my paddle leash strap perfectly, and I also have paddling partners who use it for their whistles.

Knife (too floppy though)

Strobe (but not really the best location)

Nose plugs? Great idea!

Since the little sqaure thing doesn't get in the way I haven't given it much thought...

It's called a lash tab and can be used for attaching a number of different accessories. I use mine for a knife, but it can also be used to hold a radio (with the proper attachment), a light, or other items that you need to keep handy. Some PFD's also have a lash tab on the upper back for a strobe.

On a good jacket it is very strong and can take an incredibe amount of strain and force. It is designed to be used to attach anything that you wish. Was origionally an idea for packs to carry a pair of shoes or boots...was modified and placed on jackets.

I keep a Benchmade H20 on mine. The Benchmade sheath is designed to fit in the lash tab, and it is snug and secure. The good folks at Benchmade were nice enough to send me an extra sheath so I can now just move my knife from my fishing PFD to my touring PFD without having to wrestle the sheath back out of the lash tab (did I mention it's snug and secure?).
