I was wondering how everyone transports their paddles? Or do you just leave them open. I was thinking of making a bag to keep mine in. I have looked at a few online but I like to see first before buying.

Derek, I just stick my paddles into the Forester, as is. No bag, no nothing. So far, so good for 25 years now, as no damage or deterioration has occurred as a result of just putting the naked paddles into the vehicle. A paddling buddy of mine does keep his Epic carbon paddle in an Epic bag, and makes a big production of opening the bag with great ceremony and withdrawing the holy paddle like he was a Samurai warrior, but it's all for show and fun.

Oh, I thought you were asking about transporting spare paddles on your yak. I don't worry about carrying naked paddles in my pickup (with canopy), but I will not carry unbagged paddles on the rear deck, or anywhere else on my boats. I am paranoid about scratches--on the boats.

My wife makes my paddle bags.

thanks for the replies. I have also just carried my paddles in the
car and never worried about it, so i guess I will continue. Thanks again

I bag mine. My Werner Cyprus alone is worth it (replacement value ~$400) Just like my toys too much.

Use a two paddle bag made by Technomadic that has padded compartments for four blades, and padded covers for the ferrule ends. The ferrules actually need the most protection. Once they are chipped or out of round you are fairly screwed.

I carried either two Euro takeaparts or one Euro and one takeapart Greenland.
