It really seems odd how short the production life was on the Dagger Echo series of kayaks. I saw both the 12.0 and 14.0 at a demo, but they couldnt be paddled. It seems like they were only on the market for 3 or 4 months, then discontinued. Its a shame too, as they were nice looking kayaks. I think the reason they wouldnt sell was because they were outragesly overpriced. The echo 12 sold for 1300 dollars, and the 14 sold for 1500. Now, for maybe a more outfitted poly boat, this price would be reasonable, but on more basic models like these- thats a bit steep.

I mean, My Pamlico 140 with a rear bulkhead costs about 700 dollars, compared to the Echo 14.0 at 1500- more than twice.

Echo 12.0-

Echo 14.0-

Hey, if you want to see the bargain of the year, take a look at http://www.nckayaks.com. If I hadn't already bought a new Expedition for my Christmas present to myslelf, I'd be snapping up either a 17, or 15 footer.

If you've never seen an NC up close--well you should. I'm very prejudiced, but I think they are the best built and best looking kayaks I've ever seen.

I know what you mean about some very nice kayaks being discontinued by their manufacturers. One of my rec boats is an Old Town 138; Old Town has dropped them and I think that is a shame.

Wow, how many kayaks do you own?? What kind are they?? I just have the one Pamlico 140.

I would agree with you that NCs are very nice. From the inventory I saw, the NC quest was the nicest looking one in my personal opinion.

Oh, and the MSRP on the NCs seems more logical than the Dagger echos. Even though the price tag is about 2500, it makes sense for a high end fiberglass kayak.

as for the Echos, I'd say 600-900 would be a reasonable price range.

The prices on NC kayaks are the actual price. They sell their boats factory direct; there is no dealer markup. The NC boats might not be everyone's cup of tea, but they make beautiful boats that look fantastic and perform the task they are designed for, extremely well.

Pam 140, sorry if I gave the impression that I have some extensive collection of boats. I just have my little fleet of 5 and I don't in any way think that is special. It is, however, pretty special to me. I enjoy all of them very much, but I have to admit that two of them are feeling ignored recently.

One of my paddling friends says, hey, you can only paddle one boat at a time. I agree, but I don't think there is any one boat that can satisfy all types of paddling. That's not to say that I do that many different kinds of paddling. Sometimes I just like to go out for a quick paddle in a rec boat where I can slop around and even doze off without having to worry about ending up nose to nose with a fish. Sometimes I like to go play in the waves and sometimes I like to cover a lot of water.

I'm not the least bit ashamed to say that I do not play around in the ocean and I don't do much in the way of ww.

I believe you when you say you are a yute (a little cousin Viny lingo there) and I'm thinking you will be gathering a few more boats as you go along--if you stick with the paddling.

5 seems like alot to me, LOL. How do you make the room? What kind of kayaks do you have specifically?

If I ever got other boats, I'd consider building a Nunivak island inuit kayak replica, and the Old Town Pack is another. It paddles nicely and its light.
