The river has three hydro-electric generating stations on this section of river that enjoys an unlimited supply of available waters obtained from the huge New York State Erie Barge Canal system that traverses from Buffalo all the way East to New York City.
The float trip can begin at a small bridge at hwys 63 and Slade rd. just North of Medina NY, one mile south of NYS Route 104. The river is class 1, slow moving bordered mostly by unimproved forest and farmers fields. A few homes and cottages are to be found along the way. Wildlife is plentiful. Deer, Blue Hwerons, turtles, otters, ducks and lots of diversified fishes are to be seen. Water quality is suitable for swimming on mostly sand and shale rock bottoms. The river is heavily canopied for many miles by huge willows and a diversified section of hardwoods. There is parking for your own car shuttles at all bridges including two popular take outs at the Lyndonville Townline rd. and the HWY 279 bridge at Waterport Lake Alice reservoir- end of the line!
