It’s here: the silly season.
Thanksgiving has passed and suddenly we’ve found ourselves neck deep in the 2008 holiday season. I realize I sound old when I say this, but I cannot believe how quickly this year has slipped by.
Personally and professionally, this past year has been one of many challenges and changes. At times, I was certain I had been kicked squarely in the head by a horse and questioned the wisdom of picking myself up once again. However, there are times in life when you need to rely on the help of others and for me, that is what 2008 was. For the first time in my life this was the year that I needed to lean on some other people instead of being the one that people turned to.
I mean this when I say it, I am very fortunate to have the position that I have. I’ve truly been blessed with a very public position here at Sea Kayaker magazine and in my travels, business dealing and day to day life, this past year has helped me form very solid friendships with many people involved in this industry— co-workers, advertisers, subscribers to the magazine and yes, even with my counterparts at other publications who are direct competitors for advertising dollars.
I want to take a moment and wish all of you a very heartfelt wish of having a wonderful holiday season this year and thank so many of you for your friendship this past year. I hope those of you reading this that have a personal connection with me understand that these are not hollow words.
I’ll be spending the holidays surrounded by my family and many life-long friends back in Buffalo, New York, my hometown. It has been 4 years since I’ve gone back to Buffalo, NY for Christmas, so this year will be an extra special holiday for me and certainly for my family.
I hope that everyone has a wonderful holiday season this year! |
