Equipment -- October 1998
|
Construction: Upper portion of front and back foam panels features a panel of
embossed foam "bubbles." Side panels have cylindrically shaped embossed
foam. Neoprene on shoulders and front underarms. Two front mesh
pockets.
Features: Key ring inside left front pocket, knife holder
on outside of pocket. Both reviewers found the pockets to be on
the small side.
Fit: Good fit for both reviewers.
Ease of entry/exit: Vest style-easy to put on and take off. LR experienced
difficulty with the zipper: "The zipper repeatedly caught in the
fabric, and I had to remove the PFD over my head."
Adjustability: Easy to tailor to individual body type. LR
appreciated the wide range of cinching options: 31/2" of shoulder
cinching is possible over flexible neoprene. "A nice feature for
short torsos or high-decked kayaks." The side panels have 41/2"
of cinching potential, "allowing for cinching without bulking up
the side." (LR)
Range of motion: VK noted good range of motion, although
she questioned the need for foam under the arms: "It just seems
to add bulk." While paddling, LR had inadequate room in front of
the armhole area for comfortable paddling, although she liked the
neoprene in the front underarm area:"It prevents uncomfortable chafing."
Visibility: While the magenta/black color combination makes
for poor visibility, this vest also comes in blue/black and red/black.
VK appreciated the reflective tape on the side of the trim on the
rear, but would prefer that it be wider and repeated on the front.
Buoyancy: Both reviewers found this PFD to be adequately
buoyant. LR was unable to adjust the webbing to prevent upward movement
of the PFD to her chin while swimming, although she found swimming
with this PFD to be no problem.
